The Squatter

Artist's Statement:
The inspiration for this sculpture partially came from my friend Murray McKay who would sometime hold such a pose while working as a Life Drawing model. Murray passed away 2 years ago. The sculpture was also driven in part by what I have been observing in recent years as a renewed phenomena of ultra nationalistic, anti-immigrant views. The Squatter assumes a body position many would see in areas in the world that are less affluent than us. Yet, the gesture is none-threatening. I hope birds feed from the bowl.
