​This position involves promoting the Haliburton Sculpture Forest, coordinating special events, running interpretive tours, assisting with the installation of a new sculptures, assisting with the maintenance of the collection, and media relations.

​

The Haliburton Sculpture Forest is located in Glebe Park adjacent to the campus of the Haliburton School of The Arts. The Sculpture Forest has a permanent collection of over 50 sculptures and attracts thousands of visitors each summer.

 

Skills and attributes required: an interest in the arts, good computer and social media skills, good communications skills and initiative, good organizational skills, post-secondary studies related to arts, culture, education, marketing, or business would be helpful but not required.

We are looking for someone who is interested in the community, is eager to be an ambassador, is creative and enjoys working with people.

​

The Sculpture Forest Ambassador will work out of the new downtown Sculpture Forest interpretive centre in the Caboose Bike Hub and at the Haliburton Sculpture Forest. 

 

Access to own transportation preferred. (vehicle or bicycle).

This is position is supported by Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations Applicants must be involved in post-secondary studies, be less than 30 years of age, have been registered as a full-time student within the previous academic year, and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the coming year.

Position Description

Education and Interpretation:

Objective: To provide interpretive tours of the Sculpture Forest for school groups (elementary and high school) and the general public.

 

  • In July and August, we run free guided tours of the Sculpture Forest for the public once a week and weekly guided tours of the Downtown Haliburton Sculpture Exhibition.

  • The Sculpture Forest ambassador will provide public with information about other cultural attractions situated along the network of village pathways.

  • We also provide special tours for school groups and other groups when requested.

 

Public Programming:

Objective: Provide public programming that will increase awareness, understanding and enjoyment of the Sculpture Forest and the Downtown Sculpture Exhibition.

 

  • The Sculpture Forest has an innovative new Interpretive Centre in the repurposed Heritage Railway Caboose in Head Lake Park at the centre of the Active village Pathways. Sharing the caboose hub allows indoor display of interpretive panels about the Sculpture Forest. By sharing this welcoming space with the established bike hub, the new Interpretive Centre can reach more visitors encouraging discovery of the Sculpture Forest and the Downtown Sculpture Exhibition.

  • The Sculpture Forest plans to host a collective of multi-media artists who will mount a public performance - integrating dance, music and digital media in the Sculpture Forest.

  • 2026 is the Sculpture Forest’s 25th anniversary. In celebration we will be holding events to induct six new sculptures into the Sculpture Forest collection.

​

Objective: Encourage the public to visit the Sculpture Forest, the Downtown Sculpture Exhibition and other cultural features in the area via the Active Village Pathways radiating out from the caboose hub.

 

  • Located beside the Caboose is the free Rotary bikeshare depot. Visitors can use these bicycles to visit the Haliburton Sculpture Forest – 2 ½ kilometers by pathway from the Caboose.

  • The summer student will support visitors in accessing the bikeshare bikes and assist people in selecting walk/bike pathways that will take them to the Sculpture Forest and other cultural features in the area.

 

Communication:

Objective: Inform the public and tourists about the Sculpture Forest, the Downtown Sculpture Exhibition, the public tours and the public events. Strengthen the social media presence of the Sculpture Forest and the Caboose Bike Hub through creation and posting of content. Promote the active village pathways to visit the Sculpture Forest and cultural destinations from the village core.

  • Update the Sculpture Forest Website

  • Update the Bloomberg Connects self-guided tour app for the Sculpture Forest and Downtown Sculpture Exhibition

  • Create and make creative posts on Facebook and Instagram to highlight the Sculpture Forest, Downtown Sculpture Exhibition and other cultural features and events.

  • Provide information to newspapers and radio to highlight events at the Sculpture Forest, and encourage people to walk and bike to the Sculpture Forest.

Conservation and Preservation:

Objective for the Sculpture Forest: Maintain upkeep of the collection.

  • All of the sculptures in the Sculpture Forest are permanent outdoor installations and require annual cleaning. Some require refinishing and some minor repairs.

Land Acknowledgment
